Hockey player charged after a spearing incident

Hockey Alberta has now suspended a 16-year-old after he was charged with aggravated assault.

The charges come from an on-ice spearing incident that sent another player into surgery to have a piece of his bowel removed.

No penalty was given on the ice because it was during a stoppage in play and no refs saw it happen.

The suspension is automatically 10 games.

Hockey Alberta’s president will make a decision on further discipline after that time is up.
