Canada can handle both Haiti and Afghanistan missions

Prime Minister Stephen Harper recently said that Canada’s commitment to Haiti will last years, not months.

Two thousand Canadian troops are there right now, but most will have to come back to Canada by the end of April to redeploy to Afghanistan.

Still, military analyst Mercedes Stephenson tells 660News, our troops can perform both missions at the same time.

She questions the need to have 2,000 army troops in Haiti, when they could be from the navy or air force instead.

Stephenson adds that even more troops will be available after their security duties at the Vancouver Olympics end this month.
