Emergency tow trucks now on standby

Emergency tow trucks will now be on stand-by for busy Calgary roads during rush hour.

The highly anticipated pilot project launched Tuesday sees tow trucks monitoring five busy routes including Deerfoot, Glenmore and MacLeod trail.

The City’s Traffic Management Centre has 52 cameras to spot accidents.

When one is seen, staff will then call the tow truck service alerting them of the trouble spot.

Stalled vehicles will be taken to the nearest safe location.

The City hopes the program will keep drivers of broken down vehicles safe, and keep the main routes free of congestion.
