Mayor Bronconnier’s going-away gift

Mayor Dave Bronconnier will get more than $126 thousand when he leaves office in October.

The taxable cash is based on a transition allowance formula given to retiring city politicians.  They get two weeks’ pay for every year they served on council.

Bronconnier calls the sum reasonable and more realistic than what’s offered in other urban centres.

But the Canadian Tax Payers Association tells The Calgary Sun since the mayor quit and wasn’t fired, he shouldn’t be getting that pile of cash.

Edmonton gives city staffers three weeks’ pay for each year served, while the province gives legislature members three months’ pay for each year worked.
