An Olympic bus driver is complaining about what he describes as poor working conditions claiming long hours and bad accommodations as just a few of the problems.
Don Slavens, who worked for Edison Transportation which was contracted by VANOC during the Games, says he was forced to stay in a room with no heat, wasn’t fed and had to work illegally long shifts. “They were well over the hours of service regulations for driving time. I had to be up at 1 a.m. to get to the depot. My shift was from 2:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.”
Slavens, who says he still hasn’t been paid, quit after 15 days and has now complained to the Employment Standards Branch and the Canadian Federation of Labour about the conditions. “I was treated like a Bangladeshi street beggar!”
VANOC tells 660News they are looking into the matter.
