Record-setting winter across Canada

This winter will be hitting the record books.

Environment Canada says this has been the warmest and driest winter in Canada since record-keeping started back in 1948.

And 660 meteorologist David Spence says the west was warmer than the east, and the entire country was dry, thanks to El Nino.

The weather pattern, which originates in the Pacific Coast off the shores of Peru, pushes a high pressure ridge over the west and low pressure over the east.

Environment Canada says precipitation was 22 per cent below normal nationally, and down 60 per cent in parts of Alberta and Saskatchewan.
