Avalanche in B.C. kills at least one

RCMP say at least one person is dead and twelve are injured after an avalanche near Revelstoke, B.C.

It’s still not known how many people could be missing.

Some 200 people watching and taking part in an annual snowmobiling event on Boulder Mountain were caught in the slide around 4:30 p.m. Calgary time.

CTV cameraman Rod Romanow arrived on scene quickly and says the area looked like a war zone with about 50 to 60 snowmobiles scattered down the side of the mountain.

RCMP say a large-scale rescue operation is currently underway involving helicopters and rescue dogs.

Many parts of the B.C. backcountry have been under avalanche warnings for several days.
