Drug expert refutes accused’s testimony

A drug expert and forensic psychiatrist has taken the stand at Christopher Watcheston’s first degree murder trial.

Both testified only briefly Monday afternoon, before the defence has rested its case.

Watcheston claims he was high on drugs when he sexually assaulted and brutally kicked Arcelie Laoagan near the Franklin LRT station two years ago.

Both witnesses say the drug Salvia lasts only minutes, t does not make a person violent or make one imagine seeing a dead relative.

This follows the accused testifying last week he thought Laoagon was his dead mom.  The psychiatrist told court the drug can make people lose muscle control making them fall or stumble and can lead to psychedelic hallucinations, that can bring about fear and detached from their surroundings.

He says the drug hits hard and fast.

The psychiatrist testifed the man he saw on the LRT video following Laoagan out of the Franklin station did not looked intoxicated.
