Arson to blame for Chinatown fire

A CPS spokesperson says arson was behind a major blaze that destroyed an historic building in Chinatown nearly two months ago.

Police confirm to 660News the fire January 25th along Centre St. and 2nd Ave. was deliberately set.

However, police say they have not made an arrest.  They’re expected to release more information about the fire Tuesday.

The early morning fire raced through a building that’s more than 100 years old and housed four businesses.

The thick plumes of smoke forced the evacuation of a neighbouring apartment building that is home to hundreds of people.

The fire also caused the closure of Centre St. for several hours slowing downtown traffic.
