Despite avalanche deaths over the past couple weekends, some people will still be spending the next few days skiing or snowmobiling in the backcountry.
The Canadian Avalanche Centre’s Cam Campbell tells 660News how you can lessen the risk of getting caught in a slide. “It’s very important that you only have one person on a slope at a time, and that you really pay attention where you group up. Don’t do it at the bottom of a slope. It needs to be well away from any overhead exposure, generally in dense forest or on high ground.
Campbell also says you should take an avalanche training course and carry the proper gear, including a transponder if you get buriedand a pole and shovel to help dig anyone else out.
