Alberta hit hard in H1N1 deaths

The flu season is almost behind us and now the final numbers are coming in.

At 19 deaths per million people, our province had a higher number of deaths from H1N1 per capita than the national average.

We only managed to get 40 per cent of people immunized.

Critics think the problem is how Alberta Health handled the situation.

Despite all the criticism surrounding the long line-ups and the confusion over who should get the shot, many people tell 660News the province shouldn’t be to blame.

But Brenda in Country Hills says the whole procedure sparked a lot of unnecessary panic.

“It was a big scare,” she says. She thinks Alberta didn’t have all the equipment it needed to immunize everyone.

New numbers show 71 people who have come down with H1N1 flu in Alberta have died.
