Traffic trouble for West LRT work

Not everyone gets a holiday Easter weekend.

West LRT construction will see crews working right through the weekend but it won’t exactly feel like a holiday for drivers stuck in the resulting traffic.

Starting Thursday, 9th Ave will be narrowed to two eastbound lanes — and then to one lane between 14th and 11th Streets for utility work that will last until 6 a.m. Monday.

Spokesman Christian Cormier tells 660News the Easter weekend was chosen to try to lessen the impact on traffic.    On Good Friday, there will be a permanent squeeze for westbound traffic on Bow Trail.

“It (Bow Trail) will be reduced to two lanes from 24th Street to 33rd Street.   We’ve had temporary closures that have been going on and off over the last few weeks but now  it will be permanent until the Fall of 2011,” he says.

Cormier says the Bow Trail closures will impact the afternoon drive the most and he suggests finding an alternate route, or adjusting your drive times to and from work.
