Showdown at Shawnee Slopes

A new round is looming in a battle between residents at the aging Shawnee Slopes golf course, and a developer that bought the golf course last year with the intention of abandoning the course.

Next week Geo Energy Enterprises will unveil its plans for the course. The plans are believed to include replacing the greens, fairways and sand traps, with between 1100 and 1600 single-family homes, townhouses, and, apartment style condos.

The company says the main part of the development will have four times the average amount of residential green space.

But neighbours aren’t happy, claiming even with more green space, the new development will take away from the tranquility of the neighbourhood.

Ann Richardson, a resident living in the neighbourhood tells the Calgary Herald, the local property values are dropping like a stone.

Geo Energy will make its redevelopment plans public, as they are scheduled to be on display for three days later this month.
