Condo construction in Calgary took a hit when the great recession took hold and that’s left dozens of abandoned projects.
Right now, 21 sites are being monitored by the city to ensure they’re safe, with hopes that once economic conditions are right the developer will resume work.
The city’s Chief Building Inspector Kevin Griffiths tells 660News, even if the developer is out of cash, they need to make sure the open pit doesn’t cause problems for others.
Last year, a few of these sites caused sinkholes, which affected nearby roads and property.
