Guerin sentencing submissions put over

There has been another delay in the case against the Calgary mother convicted in the accidental methadone overdose of her daughter.

A judge has asked for more documents from Child and Family Services.

Last month, Lisa Guerin was found guilty of failing to provide the necessities of life to 16-month-old Summer Hope in April of 2006.

The girl died after drinking some of her father’s methadone.

The crown is asking for a sentence of three to four years minus time served while the defense is asking for double time for the eleven month’s Guerin has been in jail.

Crown prosecutor Ken McCaffrey says that does not apply because she failed to show up to her preliminary inquiry and she left a treatment centre early when she was previously released.

Defense lawyer Adriano Iovinelli says his client already has to live with the fact her actions lead to her daughter’s death.

Sentencing submissions will resume next Friday.

Summer’s father, Jonathan Hope, will be sentenced at a later date, following the results of a psychiatric assessment.
