Tinder dry conditions have sparked fire bans across the province.
Areas surrounding Calgary including Airdrie, Okotoks, Chestermere and Cochrane are all affected.
There’s no ban here in the city, but fire crews dealt with a number of grassfires Saturday.
One of the day’s fires started around 5 p.m., when the wind blew some embers from a fire pit near Carburn Park in the S.E.
They also battled a small grassfire near Deerfoot Trail and 17th Avenue.
The fire department is reminding Calgarians to be extra careful this time of year, especially when discarding cigarettes because of the lack of soil moisture.
And if you’re caught chucking a smoke out the car window or onto a city street, it could cost you a $1,000 fine.
