Volcanic ash concerns ground flights in St. John’s

Early Monday morning flights in St. John’s were cancelled over volcanic ash concerns.

A spokeswoman with St. John’s International Airport, says Air Canada, Westjet and Porter Airlines all cancelled flights, but started flying again later in the morning.

Meanwhile, the European Union says air traffic could return to 50 per cent of normal levels on Monday if the weather holds.

On Sunday, airlines sent test flights into European airspace and found no damage from the ash.
