Canadians send 122 million texts every day

Canadians sent 122-million text messages every day last year.

That is up a whopping 70 per cent from 2008, according to the Canadian Wireless Telecommunications Association.

It’s a trend that’s sweeping across Calgary as well.

Young and old alike, people 660News spoke to Wednesday morning say they type into their cell phones.

Mark is in his fifties and says he uses it constantly.

“I’d be afraid to find out,” he says. “Fifty or sixty a day, easily.”

There are some traditionalists though.

“I guess I’m not that generation,” Simone says. “A phone call is instant and you get the feel of the person.”

Those who do text tell us they do it because it’s quicker and more to the point than calling someone.
