An independent audit of Calgary’s 911 call centre has found police and fire personnel have some concerns about how things are being handled.
Police Chief Rick Hanson asked for the audit after some calls were mishandled, especially hang-ups and those placed on cellphones.
And there are fears some calls for help are being missed.
Alderman Gord Lowe tells 660News the audit contains a number of recommendations ranging from training and staffing levels to the quality of information operators are gathering and providing to emergency crews.
He believes the city has a good 911 call centre but improvements can be made.
The President of the Calgary Police Association, John Dooks says he’s confident the recommendations that have been put forward will be implemented .
A recent public survey found Calgarians have a lot of faith in the 911 call system, with 82 percent describing it as good to excellent.
