For those of us who can’t make it to the events, we’ll try picking up so-called “green” products at the grocery store. But as we try and get in touch with the natural world, questions are being raised over how truly green these items are.
Between 2007 and 2008, the number of products in the market that claim to be environmentally friendly, grew by a whopping 80 per cent.
While that sounds good, a new report finds many of those items have misleading labels.
The study was done by the environmental marketing firm TerraChoice. It finds that many of the labels it looked at, exaggerated the positive effect the product has on mother nature.
The items often had green packaging, boasting one or two organic ingredients, but the rest are all harmful chemicals.
It’s being called greenwashing.
TerraChoice says these false claims are most commonly found in children’s toys, cosmetics and cleaning products.
Despite the questionable claims, the company says it’s still good to see more and more products trying to become environmentally friendly.
It just wants consumers to do their research and buy the truly green products, not the mother nature knock offs.
