Rain in forecast not enough

Although five millimetres of rain/snow is in the forecast, it is not near enough to ease the dry conditions.

660News Meteorologist David Spence says in the last three months we have received less than 15 millimetres of raining putting us in a drought position.

There has been four times the average number or wildfires this spring in Alberta.

Wildfire Information Officer Anastasia Drummond says it needs to rain every couple of days to keep the hazard down.

She says 53 fires are burning in the province right now.

The dry conditions also have farmers and ranchers hoping for more than just five millimetres of rain.

Alberta Agriculture’s Harry Brook tells 660News any amount rain is good at this point of year, but he doesn’t believe this weekend’s will be even close to what is needed.

He says the pastures and forage crops are in the most need of rain to help get them started.

Brook adds southern Alberta is in the best shape in terms moisture in the province.
