Crackdown coming on cigarette butts

Keep your butts off the street! Your cigarette butts, that is.

The city is looking at fining smokers who throw their butts out casually on sidewalks and roads.

The Calgary Sun reports Bylaw will slap you with a $1,000 fine if the butt is still burning and a $500 penalty if the cigarette has been put out.

Bylaw says all those cigarettes on the street are not only eyesores, but an environmental hazard as well, because toxins could drain into our rivers.
