The city’s 911 centre wants offices to stop dialling “9” to get an outside line.
They say having to dial “9” first leads to a lot of unnecessary emergency calls.
The dispatch centre tells the Calgary Sun since the mistaken call often comes from a central switchboard, it’s hard to tell who just accidentally dialled 911 from within an office building.
That means they have to head to a lot of make-work calls, just to ensure no one actually needs help.
