Habitat for Humanity Calgary builds 100th home

Habitat for Humanity’s model of breaking the cycle of poverty through home ownership is working and the proof is the construction of their 100th house.

Saturday morning, 50 volunteers along with the future owners, will help build the framing of this milestone home.

Habitat for Humanity’s Andrea Hlady tells 660News, the organization is also celebrating their 20th year in Calgary and are looking to build another 12 to 15 homes in 2010.

The duplex at 171 Elgin Meadows Garden S.E. is close to Mackenzie Towne and will be built to a minimum Gold Level, in accordance with the Built Green Society of Canada checklist.

Volunteers from house sponsors, Midnight Oil Exploration and Daylight Energy, will also help with construction.

Work will start at 8 a.m. and continue until 4 p.m.
