Arson suspected in N.E. blaze

Police say arson is responsible for a fire in the city’s northeast early Sunday morning.

Firefighters were called to the 300 block of Abergale Crescent around 2:00 a.m.

When they arrived the left side of the duplex and a shed in the backyard were both fully involved.  Flames had also spread to the attached house.

Det. Scott Sampson with the CPS Arson Unit tells CTV the fire was deliberately set.

“It started in the shed, there was no other reason why the fire would start there,” he says.  “The house was unoccupied at the time and the shed was just full of household contents.”

Neighbours say they saw two teens in the alley behind the home minutes before the blaze broke out.

The fire caused more than $500,000 in damage to the two homes.  No one was injured in the blaze.
