A growing seniors’ population, a need for serious building repairs and the looming arrival of a new West LRT platform are all key reasons why Calgary’s Kerby Centre is planning to move out of the downtown.
That’s not expected to happen for at least five years. In the meantime, the organization is working with city hall to ensure access points for handi-buses and a redesigned front entrance to accommodate the raised LRT platform.
Designers will also include lower than normal benches with the platform featuring a “safe zone”, in full view of a security camera.
CEO Luanne Whitmarsh tells 660News, they would love to expand to their parking lot across the street, but can’t because the province owns the land and has plans for it.
She say the group started looking for a new central site last month.
