The motion to dedicate $70 million for the planning, development and construction of a regional facility in Seton has been passed in council Monday afternoon.
The Seton Sport, Recreation, Culture and Wellness Society president says the news is fantastic.
Jack Redekop says his group already has sponsors lined up and the community is behind the project. He estimates it will cost a little more than $100 million to build.
Alderman Rick McIver says although he is happy the centre will get the funding, it is not the best deal because many P3 partnerships that had shown interest in the project will not have a bid in the project, there fore costing taking taxpayers money.
