Dog sniffs out drug stash

A seat belt check turned into a big drug bust on the Trans Canada Highway west of Calgary.

RCMP officers had pulled over the driver of an eastbound 2003 Chrysler Intrepid Silverado for a seat belt infraction near Lake Louise Thursday.

Then, a sharp-nosed drug dog turned up more than $1.2 million worth of contraband in a hidden compartment.   The mounties seized 10 kilograms of cocaine, 1 kilogram of crack cocaine and approximately 1000 Oxycodone 80 mg pills.

Sergeant Patrick Webb says it looks like the driver was on a regular drug run.

35 year-old Bradley Derkson from Surrey, BC has been charged with drug trafficking and is being held in custody until his next court date on Monday.
