A policy gap that contributed to the Peace Bridge debacle has been fixed.
The city’s director of transportation used to have the authority to contract out design work, without telling council or putting the projects out to tender.
That led to the bridge project being awarded to architect Santiago Calatrava without a public bidding process.
The mayor tells the Calgary Herald he’s going along with a report into the issue; it encourages as much competition as possible in awarding city projects.
