The long weekend is here, making it especially important to pay attention to what you are doing behind the wheel.
Don Szarko with the Alberta Motor Association tells 660News distracted drivers, inattention, speed and alcohol consumption during the long weekend are some of the leading causes of collisions.
He says take your time getting where you’re going. He also recommends taking a fully charged cell phone with you just in case you have some trouble, but don’t use it while driving.
Szarko adds that Sundays tend to be the worst time on the roads with people having a few drinks and then heading home.
The Alberta Motor Association encourages a “None for the Road” policy and, if possible, switch up driving duties with someone else in the vehicle every 100 kilometres.
