Unauthorized credit checks performed by government

The Alberta Government performed unauthorized credit checks on more than two dozen justice department employees working in the maintenance enforcement program last January.

According to the Calgary Sun, the queries looked into the financial background of 27 workers as part of an internal investigation regarding fraudulent cheques that were being circulated by an outside party.

Workers didn’t find out about the checks until April 27th, when one person found it listed on their credit report.

Justice Spokesman Jay O’Neill says all records pertaining to the credit checks have since been destroyed and any expenses incurred by the employees will be reimbursed.
