Independent audit called for at city hall

One political scientist is applauding city council’s decision to bring in an independent auditor to review the books.

City Manager Owen Tobert handed in a review Tuesday, saying he found no evidence of fraud in the procurement department, but suggesting a third party be brought in to clear tattered reputations.

Mount Royal University political scientist Keith Brownsey tells 660News an audit of this nature is necessary.

He says it should also help restore voter confidence.

A review was launched after the city’s auditor said she could not rule out fraud in the procurement department.
