A summer art series celebrating the Bow River is now underway.
One hundred wooden, hand-carved boats have been released into the river highlighting the city’s shared connection with the waterway.
It’s the first of six public art events drawing attention to Calgary’s most precious natural resource.
City water resources spokesman Paul Fesko tells 660News that many people don’t understand just how crucial the Bow is.
“People are 70 per cent water, and in Calgary people are 70 per cent bow river water. It’s a whole series to connect the people of Calgary back to the river.”
In another event in the series, 500 colourful spheres will be floated along the river.
The art events encourage people to line the Bow and learn how to better protect and sustain it.
