Slovenia overcame a nervous start to score a late goal in a 1-0 win against a short-handed Algerian squad at the World Cup on Sunday.
Algeria had a man sent off in the 72nd minute, and Slovenia scored seven minutes later to take the lead in Group C, ahead of England and the United States.
Ghana is also off to a good start at the World Cup. The African country scored on a penalty kick taking a 1-0 victory over Serbia.
And in the late match, Germany opened its World Cup schedule with a dominant victory.
The three-time champions scored two goals in each half in a 4-nothing win over Australia.
Meantime, it’s not easy being Green, at least not around England’s soccer team.
Goalkeeper Robert Green fumbled away a potential win yesterday when he bobbled a 25-yard shot that dropped the English into a 1-1 draw with the United States in the World Cup-opener for both teams.
One newspaper headline in the U.K. described the error as the “Hand of Clod,” while another described the game as “Shock ‘N’ Draw.”
