As southern Alberta keeps getting hit by a deluge of rain, the province has issued flood watches and high stream flow advisories for about a dozen rivers.
It’s courtesy of a low pressure system expected to dump up to a total of 100 millimetres in some places by Friday.
Cardston is one of the worst hit, with Lee Creek under a flood watch, along with St. Mary River downstream from the St. Mary Dam and Waterton River downstream from Waterton Reservoirs.
Sandbagging is underway in Cardston and both the Blood Reserve and Lethbridge County have declared states of emergency and dozens of homes are flooded.
About eight other rivers are under a less severe advisory for high stream flow.
Alberta Environment tells 660News it could get a lot worse, with anywhere between 30 and 50 additional millimetres expected by Friday.
The system is expected to break up by Friday, largely passing by Calgary and leaving the Bow River safe from flooding.
