We’re losing out on $8 billion a year because of goofy regulations on taking skills across provincial borders.
That’s the finding of a new report from the Macdonald Laurier Institute.
The regulations include not being able to take liquor across provincial boundaries and hairdressers trained in Alberta not being able to legally work as stylists in Saskatchewan without further testing.
The report found many skilled tradespeople are blocked from working in provinces other than the one they were trained in due to local rules.
Report authors say it’s a waste of talent and money.
