No new auditor just yet

The city won’t have a new auditor until next year.

Council fired Tracy McTaggart on Monday because her department failed to live up to industry standards.

Audit Committee Chair Brian Pincott says the search is now on for a new person to oversee spending in city departments, but admits they won’t be hired for six or seven months.

McTaggart will be paid for the rest of her one-year contract. That will cost the city as much as $100,000.

Pincott says it’s unlikely the department will now be able to complete the 17 planned audits this year.
