Emergency crews pumping up river patrols

Calgary police, fire, EMS and bylaw officers united in one message:  Play safe on the rivers this summer.

The city launched its 2010 safety program at Stanley Park Friday.

Officials say for anyone planning to float down the river this weekend, and for the rest of the season, count on seeing more officers along both rivers in the city as well as in nearby parks.

Constable Martin Courte tells 660News the increased presence is needed, especially with water levels so high this spring.

Last year, more than 3,000 warnings were given for water safety, liquor and other by-law offences.
