Canada’s population grows while Alberta slows

Canada’s population is growing and Alberta is following that trend, but at a much slower rate.

Nationally, the country passed the 34 million mark.

Alberta’s population is just over 3.7 million people and the province’s rise in population is the smallest it has been since 1996.

Statistics Canada says that’s because inter-provincial migration is at its lowest mark since 1994.

The Vice President and General Manager of Canada’s largest moving company tells 660News he was surprised when he took a look at their latest statistics.

Doug Jasper with AMJ Campbell Van Lines says their numbers show people are no longer Alberta bound, with a drop of more than 20 per cent.

As for where people are headed, Jasper says B.C. remains the province of choice, followed by Ontario and Saskatchewan.
