Calgary World War Two veterans gathered at the Lougheed House Monday to participate in the Memory Project.
It’s an on-line account of Canada’s role in that war, commissioned by the Historica Dominion Institute.
Between 30 and 40 vets are sharing their memories.
The project organizer says some startling numbers recently revealed that Canada loses 500 veterans every week.
Jenna Meisner tells 660News time is of the essence and the goal is to have as many veterans as possible share their stories for the benefit of generations to come.
“Ensuring that future generations understand what happened in the Second World War and what these men and women sacrificed. Knowing their stories are being recorded for posterity I think, to them, that’s the ultimate,” she says.
Canadians can read and even listen to those stories at the memoryproject.com.
