With another school year coming to an end, parents are wrestling with the question how to stimulate their child’s mind and body over the next couple of months.
Surprisingly, the Alberta Teachers Association recommends cutting them some slack and letting them have some fun. However, the Association’s Carol Henderson tells 660News of course they don’t recommend that fun including too much t-v or computer time.
After spending 10 months in class, children deserve a break.
“They’re so regimented through the year that they should have a little free range time and if they’re older, teenage kids, there’s nothing like a really bad summer job to make them appreciate school,” she says.
Ideally, Henderson says it’s important for parents to do their best to try and free up time to spend with their children, taking in the sights and sounds of summer.
She recommends restricting the time they spend playing video games or surfing the net because their brains need a vacation as well.
