Facebook facing another lawsuit

A Canadian lawyer has launched a class action lawsuit against Facebook, claiming changes to the website breach the privacy of its users.

Tony Merchant filed the class action lawsuit Friday.

He says users were led to believe they were making their information more secure but actually opened themselves up to advertisers and data miners.

Merchant says it is significant because people did not sign up for Facebook under those conditions.

He tells 660News that there is no cost or legal fees if people wish to join the lawsuit, they just need to visit his website.

Merchant says only a couple of hundred people have signed up to join his suit so far. He tells 660News every Facebook user will have a claim, and some will have a serious claim depending on the abuse of their personal information.

The office of Canada’s Privacy Commissioner investigated Facebook’s privacy policies last year and raised concerns including confusion about how to permanently deactivate an account and have a user’s personal information erased.
