Canadians love their trucks

Eco-friendly celebrities don’t appear to have much sway in Canada.

Despite the car buying habits of greenies like Leo DiCaprio and Tom Hanks, Canadians are turning away from fuel sippers, and opting for gas guzzling trucks.

The sale of gas guzzling pickups jumped in the first five months of this year.
They’ve grabbed 15 per cent of the market share. That’s the highest in 12 years.
Subcompact car sales fell to 6.1 per cent of the market in the January to May period. That’s their lowest level since 2005.

The president of Ford Canada points the finger as massive incentives. He tells The Globe and Mail, all of the big three North American auto makers had significant cash back offers on full size pickup sales.
