Anti-panhandling campaign to launch this fall

Give your money to homeless shelters, not panhandlers on the streets.

That’s the message the province will be trying to get out when it launches a new public education campaign this fall.

Housing Minister Jonathan Denis says almost 80 per cent of money going to panhandlers ends up supporting bad habits like drug abuse, alcoholism and gambling.

He tells the Calgary Sun the province might also set up donation stations that look like parking metres.
