Ron Liepert believes politics, especially south of the border, is behind the latest challenge to oilsands development and exports.
Liepert tells 660News, the Gulf oil leak has put U.S. legislators on the defensive when it comes to energy issues and that’s why so many are now jumping on the anti oilsands bandwagon.
Liepert says despite increased opposition to the oilsands, the Stelmach government will continue to speak out in support of the mega energy project, believing in time common sense will prevail.
He says even the U.S. consular general here in Calgary has voiced disappointment regarding recent oilsands criticism because of the importance of energy security and supply.
