Reckless driver to spend two years behind bars

A driver has been sentenced to two years in prison after injuring three road maintenance crew members in 2008.

Thirty-one-year-old Richard McAuley slammed into the workers at high speed in the middle of the night on Deerfoot Trail just north of 17th Avenue.

The Herald reports that at the time of the crash, McAuley was on bail for a charge of driving over the maximum .08 legal blood-alcohol limit.

The three men suffered serious injuries, one with fractures to his spine, while another had two titanium plates and nine screws in his ankle.
