Calgary gas shortages

For the second straight summer, zeros are being posted at some service stations in the city.

Shell outlets seem to be the most impacted.

A local energy analyst blames the current fuel shortage on a combination of increased demand and some problems at Alberta refineries.

Michael Ervin with MJ Ervin & Associates tells 660News the situation just reinforces how tight the gas supply and demand curve is and how easily it can be upset.

Ervin believes additional fuel will soon be shipped in via train, but doubts the move will lead to higher pump prices.

He says the shortage also shows that the provinces pipeline network is set up for exports and not imports.
