Calgary is bucking the western trend when it comes to crime.

Most cities in the nation are seeing fewer crimes, but urban centres in the west lead the country in the number of crimes reported to police.

Last year, Calgary police reported the total number of crimes in our city dropped by 7 per cent which is below the national average.

Winnipeg remains the homicide capital among large Canadian cities.

StatsCan’s violent crime severity index was highest in Winnipeg, followed by Regina and Saskatoon.
