Police budget controversy

It appears there’s another twist to the police budget controversy.

On Monday, aldermen pre-approved the cash for the Calgary Police Service for next year after a threat to cut $15 million dollars which would have cut over a hundred positions.

But the province may have threatened to pull back on funding for the city if they made the cuts.

The Calgary Sun reports a letter from Alberta’s Solicitor General was sent to city hall.

It pointed out that to get the money for the 41 officers promised by the government, Calgary needs to maintain its officer count.

The letter was apparently shown to aldermen ahead of their vote.
