Canadian retail sales have unexpectedly fallen for a second straight month. However, spending is unchanged in Alberta.
Nationally, there was a drop of 0.2 percent in May compared to the previous month. The drop is being blamed on slower sales in building and gardening materials and at gas stations.
But sales were up at clothing stores, home furnishing outlets and in the food and beverage industry.
In Alberta we gave retailers $4.86 billion to retailers in May, that is about what we spent the previous month and is a 4.5 percent increase over the previous year.
